Description
The former Sœurs Grises convent, located on the Grand-Rue in Thuin, is an imposing building rebuilt after a fire in 1745. Left abandoned for decades, the chapel today is in an advanced state of disrepair.
As part of the final-year architecture project of Aurélie Cavion, I modelled the interior of this listed chapel to allow the spaces to be visualised and understood. The rendering - deliberately simple and clean, without materials - highlights the purity of the volumes and arches. To bring the interior views to life, I designed stained glass windows inspired by the Sagrada Família in Barcelona, whose interplay of colour and light reveals the spatial potential of the building.
The spaces were originally modelled in 2006 using AutoCAD 3D, then imported into 3DS Max for the initial renders. When putting together this portfolio, the models were reimported into SketchUp and reworked with V-Ray to produce these updated views.
